Death   Death (fear&hope)

Clay figures.

Growing up in Turkey, overpowered by religion, I was taught by educational institutions to be scared of God. Dominant views of repressed people that I have encountered throughout my life have steered my belief towards a term used in Islamic mysticism “En-el Hak”, which translates into “I am God”, declared by Hallaci Mansur, a Dervish, in the 10th Century. He suggests that all creatures of the world are one and whole. “Entire universe is of God, and God is everywhere. If I am part of this universe, then part of God exists in me.”

I made casts of my body to create 3 (holy number) figures out of clay symbolizing God, life and death which were suspended from the gallery ceiling, above 56 (multiple of 7, defined as consciousness) crouched small figures representing societies fear of the highest truth.
